“EXTRALAB” Laboratory is the only facility in Armenia that conducts in vivo testing on animals for toys intended for children up to three years of age, toothbrushes, cosmetic products, and other consumer goods. All studies are carried out by highly qualified specialists in strict accordance with IACUC guidelines and ethical standards, ensuring the welfare of laboratory animals. The use of laboratory animals is regulated by the Law of the Republic of Armenia “On Veterinary Care” and fully complies with the requirements of the European Parliament and the Council.

The laboratory has acquired the only environmental monitoring device in the Republic of Armenia — “BIOTOX 10M”. This instrument makes it possible to determine the toxicity index of perfumery and cosmetic products using the in vitro method, which, unlike the in vivo method, does not require testing on animals, ensuring a humane approach. In addition, the device enables rapid analysis of a large number of samples.

The laboratory has acquired an Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS) manufactured by Biobase Bioland CO., LTD, equipped with graphite and mercury-hydride attachments. The instrument enables the determination of the content of twenty different metals in tested samples. Using the graphite attachment, the mass concentrations of the following elements are determined: aluminum, barium, beryllium, vanadium, bismuth, iron, cadmium, cobalt, manganese, copper, molybdenum, arsenic, nickel, tin, lead, selenium, silver, antimony, titanium, chromium, and zinc. Using the mercury-hydride attachment, the mass concentrations of selenium, bismuth, tellurium, arsenic, and cadmium are determined.
